Cokato Minnesota, in Wright County is about a 30 minute drive south of St. Cloud MN and a 45 minute drive west of Minneapolis Minnesota. There are about 2800 people residing in Cokato. It was first settled in 1858, primarily by Swedes, Norwegians, and Finns. The name “Cokato” is a Dakota word which means “in the middle of” because it is located in the center of what was called the “Great Woods” that extended from the Mississippi River to Willmar MN. The town grew and businesses sprang up when the first railroad came to the area.

Both Dassel Elementary and the DC High School are are recognized as “National Schools of Excellence.” The school system alone is a good reason for purchasing a Cokato MN home.

Undoubtedly, the zenith of Cokato social life occurs during a summer festival called the “Corn Carnival.” Fresh corn-on-the-cob is offered by local canneries, and the grand prize of the event is a brand new car provided by the local auto dealer. A Corn Carnival Queen is crowned at this time. This time has also become a favorite for class reunions.
